Transportation

Depending on your accommodation, you could either walk, bike or use public transportation to get to the venue. Google Maps is very helpful in planning your trip. For public transportation, you can simply tap in and out with a credit card. If you forget to tap out, you will be charged for a day ticket. Uber is also available, but we would recommend exploring all the above first. If you'd like to rent a bike, we'd be happy to help! Hotels often offer bike rentals but there are plenty of local bike shops that would be happy to rent to you (search "fiets huren")

Accommodation Details

Looking for a place to stay? We are always happy to help or give advice when searching for accommodation. We suggest using MapItOut to give you an idea of where to stay. Keep in mind if you stay in Noord (north of the IJ river), you may be dependent on free ferries if you intend on walking or cycling back to your accommodation, and they don't always run in the wee hours of the morning. There will be a way to get back to Noord, it just may involve some extra walking. They will post the summer schedule later this year.

City Attractions

Discover the charm of Amsterdam with Nick's travel guide, complete with curated lists of must-visit attractions, restaurants, & other hidden gems. This guide has pages and pages of information to make the most of your stay in Amsterdam. In addition to items listed on the guide, Formula 1 will be happening in Zandvoort Fri-Sun if you want to catch a race before or after the wedding. There's also a massive sailing festival happening the weekend prior, SAIL Amsterdam. Over 10,000 ships and millions of visitors!

It's Amsterdam's 750th birthday this year. As such there are events all year long. Feel free to check the calendar for events you might be interested in. More events will be added during the summer.

Dress Code

We kindly ask our guests to adhere to formal cocktail attire if possible (if in doubt, here's a helpful manual). There's no bridal party, so no need to avoid the colors of a bridal party. We also request our guests avoid wearing a white dress. Thank you!

Why Amsterdam?

This is an international relationship, and by definition an international wedding. We didn't feel it would be fair to have the wedding in either of our "backyards," making the other side's family and friends travel. We still needed a location with an international airport so people could get here as easily as possible.

We thought this was a reasonable middle-ground as it is our home for now. We really love this city and we'd love to share it with you. We think it's one of the most beautiful places in the world, and we hope you agree.

This will be a very small wedding and we are extraordinarily thankful to all the guests who can make the trip. We'll do our best to make sure it's worth it!

International Travel

No visa or other action is required for EU and American passport holders.

Please see here if you are not sure whether you need a visa. If you are traveling from the US, please make sure you have at least 90 days remaining before your passport expires. If not, you may be denied boarding your flight.

If you make purchases in excess of 50 euros that you plan on bringing home to the US, make sure you collect the receipts. You can receive your sales taxes back at the airport (VAT tax here -- you will see it listed as BTW).
